It was built around the 16th century by Timma Naidu, son of Ramalinga Naidu, who was a leader in the Vijayanagar Kingdom. The temple is similar to the Vittala Temple in Hampi. It’s not as big, but it has many similarities. The temple covers about 5 acres and follows Silpa Sastras.

Inside, there are carvings showing stories from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Bhagavatha. The main hall has forty pillars in the Vijayanagar style. There’s also a hall with scenes from the Ramayana and sculptures of Vishnu avatars. The main idol of Lord Venkataramana Swamy is very beautiful.

The temple also has shrines for Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Anjaneya. There’s a hidden tunnel believed to lead to Gooty Fort, but it’s closed now. The temple has intricate carvings on every wall, depicting gods and stories from ancient texts.

The entrance tower faces east and is made of stone and brick. It has carvings of various figures like Vidyadhara, Apsaras, Avatars, Elephants, and Horses arranged in different levels.

3. Gunupudi Someswara Janardhana Swamy Temple

Sri Satyanarayana Swamy Temple is 2 km away from Annavaram Railway Station. It sits on Ratnagiri hill, about 300 feet high, with lots of greenery and the Pampa River nearby. To reach the temple, you climb 460 stone steps from the bottom of the hill. People believe that if they perform a special ceremony called Satyanarayana Vratam here, their wishes will come true.

The temple was built in 1891 by Raja Ramanarayana, who was the leader of some lands at that time. He dreamed that a god told him to build the temple, so he did. The temple was rebuilt in 1933-34 and again in 2011-2012. Long ago, Sri Krishnadevaraya, a king, used secret passages in these hills for battles. Alluri Seetharama Raju, who fought against British rule, also hid in these hills.

The main temple looks like a chariot with four wheels. There’s a special building in front called kalyana mantapa. The main gods in the temple are Lord Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy and Goddess Ananta Lakshmi Satyavathi Devi. According to a story, the hills were once home to a king named Meru and his wife Menaka. They had two sons, one of whom became Bhadrachalam, where Lord Sri Rama lived. The other son became Ratnagiri hill.

Inside the temple, there are two floors. The ground floor has special symbols and a seat for the god. Around it, there are statues of Ganapati, Suryanarayana, Bala Tripurasundari, and Maheswara. Upstairs, there’s a big statue of Lord Satyanarayana Swamy, with Goddess Anantha Lakshmi on one side and Lord Shiva on the other. There’s also a unique 13 ft statue of Brahma, Vishnu, and Siva.
