1. Bhimtal Lake

Bhimtal Lake

Bhimtal Lake is a big lake that many people like to visit. Every year, over a million tourists come here. It’s 47 acres big and has a dam and an aquarium on an island in the middle. Bhimtal Lake is really pretty and well-kept. The dam was built in 1883 during British rule. It’s 150 meters long and 14 meters high with 12 gates. It used to help water the village, but now it’s mostly for drinking water.

Boating is a big attraction here. It lets you see beautiful scenery. You can only get to the aquarium by boat. If you know how to use canoes or kayaks, there are lots of options for you to explore the lake on your own.

Best Time to Visit Bhimtal Lake:

The nicest time to go to Bhimtal Lake is from March to June and September to December. It’s up high at 4500 ft, so it gets cold in the winter. If you like the cold, go in December, January, or February.

Timings and Entry Fees:

Bhimtal Lake is open from 9 AM to 6 PM every day. You can enjoy 2-3 hours here, so plan your visit well.

The lake is free to enter, but if you want to go boating, it costs Rs. 150 per person.

2. Corbett National Park in Haldwani

In 1875, Edward Jim Corbett was born in Kaladhungi to Irish parents. He loved exploring the jungles near his home in Kumaon, which were full of animals.

At 19, Corbett left school to work with the Bengal and North Western Railways. Although he traveled all over India for work, he always felt drawn to Kumaon. He became famous for understanding and helping villagers deal with dangerous animals like tigers and leopards. He never hunted for fun.

In 1915, he bought land in Haldwani and helped 40 people start a village there. He built houses and gave them land to farm. He lived there with his sister until 1947.

After India got independence, Corbett moved to Kenya. But before he left, he made sure the villagers of Haldwani got to keep their land. Today, the village has over 130 families and remembers Corbett fondly. His cottages are now a museum, reminding people of his love for Kumaon. You should visit Haldwani to learn about Jim Corbett and his connection to the area.
